These aren’t as user friendly to setup as Alexa, Google Home or SmartThings, but they do offer pretty awesome local control options. Note: One exception is offline ‘smart hubs’ such as Hubitat or Home Assistant. This means any third party Integrations with other technology, such as Alexa, are going to stop working until your internet’s back up. The Kasa smart plug only works with an internet connection. If your internet goes down, all of these features are going to go down with it. However, the internet is often required for most of the third-party integrations that make the advanced, DIY smart home ecosystem functional. If you want your lights to turn on the moment you walk in the door without having to press a button, you’re going to need some third-party integrations to really complete the smart home of your dreams.
